Baking Burekas at OrVeShalom

This intergenerational documentary premiered at the High Museum of Art during the 2004 Cinema and Food Festival

Mediterranean Connections, a 14-minute video, explores Moroccan and Sephardic Jewish roots through the timeless art of bread making and the power of shared stories. Through breadmaking workshops, viewers gain insights into the origin of bread and our human connections.

Chef Rafih Benjelloun, owner of the Moroccan Imperial Fez restaurant, shares fascinating reflections about his heritage. A Sephardic Jewish congregation explores its cultural origins during a Bureka baking workshop. Baker and author Maggie Glezer also shares intriguing insights about the origins of Mediterranean bread.

The faces of young and adult participants speak volumes. The video engages others to share stories and explore other cultural breads.
